Wacha/Logosz: “Age is not a limitation”

The 57th Polish National Championships took place in the eastern city of Bialystok over the weekend and the stars of the bygone Polish golden era, Przemyslaw Wacha and Michal Logosz defended their men’s doubles title.

Writing to his fans after repeating the brilliant feat of last year, Logosz stated.

-This gold medal gave us a lot of satisfaction and showed that our age is not a limitation.

Logosz, 43, was one of the top doubles players in Europe. This culminated in four Europe Championships bronze medals in men’s doubles between 2000 and 2006. Logosz was also part of the Polish golden era which won silver in the 2010 European Men’s Team Championships in Warsaw.

It all came to a sad end for Logosz at the London 2012 Olympics after being forced to retire due to an Achilles injury. Almost a decade later, he is still being patched up and able to compete at a high level.

-Thanks from me to Przemek [Wacha] and my Orthopaedists who operated on my knee six weeks before the final and made the impossible possible.

‘Two grandpas’ can still do it
Przemyslaw Wacha turned 40 this year and is mostly known as a singles player, however, at the 1999 European Junior Championships, he won the men’s doubles silver medal with Piotr Zoladek, losing to a certain Mathias Boe and Kasper Kiim Jensen in the final.

Wacha did win a European Championships bronze in the singles in 2008 and later in his career, he switched to doubles with Adam Cwalina, forming a formidable partnership on the circuit.

The hard-hitting Pole gave everyone a warning that they can repeat their title win from last year. In 2020 he said.

- We are two grandpas showing that we can still perform well on court. Even though we both have won many national titles before, the last one is always the best one. We might say that this is it now, but we will probably be back next year!

They delivered on their promise. In this year’s nationals final, Wacha faced his old partner, Adam Cwalina and Michal Bochat. The first game was a tight one, having to come from behind to win 21-18. The more experienced duo took control in the second game, winning by the more comfortable margin of 21-12.

Their simple message after their win is pleasingly exactly the same as last year.

-I think I will see you next year.
