Danish men’s singles star Viktor Axelsen has tested positive for Covid-19 after his semifinals at the 2021 European Championships in Kyiv, Ukraine.

The positive test result will have to be confirmed via a second PCR-test conducted Saturday evening. The result from the second test is expected to come Sunday morning.

The whole organization behind the European Championships is devastated about the news, and everyone will do their utmost to support Axelsen, as it has been the case the other Danish players tested positive in Kyiv.

- An amazing badminton day just became very dark here in Kyiv – no one wanted this to happen, and all we can do is to hope for a negative test answer on the second test, although it is unlikely, Badminton Europe Deputy General Secretary, Jimmy Andersen stated immediately after receiving the news.

Since the beginning of the 2021 European Championships four Danish players have tested positive for Covid-19.
