Line Christophersen beat Kirsty Gilmour, securing a spot in the 2021 European Championships final.

The established against the talent. There were reasons to have big hopes for the second match of the semifinals day, where the winner of the Badminton Europe Young Player of the Year 2019, Christophersen, faced the flying Scot, Kirsty Gilmour, who three times has made it to the podium at the continental championships.

The Dane won the opening game 21-13, before the European Games 2019 runner-up took the second game 21-7.

In the decider it was once again one-way traffic, but this time for the Dane. Line Christophersen secured the spot in the final winning the third game 21-10.

- I was a very up and down game. We both had to put absolute everything into it. It was “who is going to sting first and keep the pressure”. It was a big contrast from yesterday’s match (against Lianne Tan ed.), and considering that I had three-four weeks of pain free training, I am disappointed, but it is still a European medal, Gilmour said.

Marin or Yigit
Line Christophersen, who won the women’s singles titles at the 2016 European U17 Championships and the 2018 European Junior Championships, will be facing either the Spanish super star Carolina Marin or the underdog Neslihan Yigit, Turkey, in the final on Sunday.

- It was all about getting the initiative and the attack. I am happy that I came out aggressive in the third game, and now I am just happy and proud that I will be playing tomorrow, Christophersen said.
