The 2021 BEC Annual Delegates’ Meeting (ADM) will be held virtually on 1st May 2021 and Badminton Europe (BEC) looks forward to discussing some important topics in a meeting with a new feel.
Unfortunately, the current COVID-19 situation still prevents many delegates to travel to Kyiv, Ukraine without restrictions and therefore the BEC Board of Directors decided to stage the 2021 BEC ADM as a virtual meeting.
In October 2020, Badminton Europe met for the first-ever virtual ADM, where everyone welcomed a new member to the Board of Directors. BEC President, Peter Tarcala reflects on this unique time.
- When in ten years we look back at 2020, many of us will start conversations saying “do you remember…” In 2021, we meet this way again, but I sincerely hope that this will not only be the second virtual Annual Delegates’ Meeting but also the last one.
Adaptation
Adapting to the challenges and limitations presenting themselves through this year has been a focus and a collective effort. Brian Agerbak, General Secretary emphasises how important this has been.
-It is absolutely necessary for any organisation to be able to adapt. Meeting virtually has quickly become the new norm. It is not ideal for the type of meeting as our ADM or in fact congress as the interhuman relationships and networking opportunity are missing.
The upcoming ADM brings a new strategic plan to the members with a change of vision, mission statement as well as new priorities and implementation structure.
In addition, Badminton Europe will introduce Judicial Procedures which shall tie the BEC legal framework with BWF. This requires an update of the Rules which also provides the opportunity to also formalise the option of virtual and hybrid meetings. For this one, there will be a new feel to it.
-We will try to spice up the virtual session with some more video content but will still try to keep the session precise and to the point. So, no promises of a grand show, but it will be a good meeting with a business-first approach, states Brian Agerbak.
