2021 Annual Delegates’ Meeting to be virtual on 1 May 2021

The 2021 BEC Congress including the physical Badminton Europe Annual Delegates’ Meeting (ADM) has been cancelled. The Congress was supposed to be held in Kyiv from 30 April – 2 May 2021. As in 2020, the ADM will instead be hosted virtually.

The ADM will take place on 1 May 2021.

Badminton Europe will look into how and when a Members’ Forum can be hosted later in the year.

The 2020 Awards will be announced during the virtual 54th Annual Delegates’ Meeting.

Badminton at European Games 2023
The Board of Directors agreed to sign the agreement with EOC for badminton to be part of the European Games 2023.

Changes at the European U15 Championships
From 2022 onwards, the European U15 Championships can be organized as a standalone event or together with the European Junior Championships, and not necessarily as a side-event to the European Men’s & Women’s Team Championships as it has been the case since 2014. This is now visualized in the bidding papers for BEC Major Events.

New format for the European Men’s & Women’s Team Championships
From 2024 onwards, the format of the European Men’s & Women’s Team Championships will be changed into a two-stage format, similar to the European Mixed Team Championships:

  • Qualification Stages will be held separately for men and women in 2023
  • The Final Stage will combine men and women together with 8 teams in each of the two events

Regulation updates

European Championships:

Seeding: There shall be eight seeds in each of the main draws, unless an event has 16 or less entries.

Clothing: The name of the player’s country on the back of the shirt is now mandatory.

The updated regulations can be found on the BEC website.

Elite Circuit

An event must contain at least 8 (eight) competitors in the first published version of the main draw to count towards any ranking.

2 (two) tournaments of the same level can’t be sanctioned on the same week.

Junior Circuit

An event must contain at least 8 (eight) competitors in the first published version of the main draw to count towards any ranking.

U17 Circuit

An event must contain at least 8 (eight) competitors in the first published version of the main draw to count towards any ranking.

The updated regulations can be found on the BEC website and are valid from 27 January 2021.

Sanction fees

Due to the Covid-19 situation, it has been decided that sanction fees for all Circuit tournaments sanctioned from January until the end of June 2021 will be reduced by 50%, regardless of whether the respective tournament is carried out or cancelled.

For tournaments sanctioned from July 2021 onwards or tournaments postponed from the first half to the second half of the year, the normal amount will be invoiced, unless otherwise decided later in the year by the Board of Directors.
