We now know our quarterfinalists at the Thailand Open. Plenty to get excited about.

In the women’s doubles, with the absence of the Stoeva sisters, the two top European pairs went head-to-head in Bangkok for round two. The European Games silver medallists, Lauren Smith/ Chloe Birch faced the double European Championship bronze medallists, Maiken Fruergaard/ Sara Thygesen.

The Danes seemed like they were channelling their form from this time last year when they got to the final of the Indonesia Masters in the first game. Despite winning 21-10, the English pair was able to turn the match completely on its head and storm through the next two games 21-12, 21-13 to take the win.

They now face the Korean fourth seeds Kim So Yeong/ Kong Yee Yong in the quarterfinals.

We now have the final eight in each category, where the fight for the podium really begins. Here is the European interest in the quarterfinals:

Rasmus Gemke (DEN) vs Anthony Ginting (INA) (5)
Viktor Axelsen (DEN) (4) vs Jonatan Christie (INA) (6)
