As the European Mixed Team Championships Qualification got underway in all locations today, seeds Russia emphatically defeated Poland 5-0, making a strong statement.

Russian Vladimir Malkov won the first match of the day against Mikolaj Szymanowski from Poland, hereby securing the first point for Russia. Although Russia is the favourite to win Qualification Group 2, Malkov keeps both feet on the ground.

- We are just trying our best and time will show if we will win. I think we are the best team here in our group, and we will try to confirm this.

Hosts Belgium win a very close tie against Switzerland 3-2
Belgium was able to defeat the higher-ranked team Switzerland on home soil. Jona Van Nieuwkerke was very happy to secure the first point for Belgium in the mixed doubles after three very close games.

- Every point in this tie is very important. We have faith in the whole team, and we will push them to win all the points.

Sabrina Jaquet lost the third match against Lianne Tan, resulting in an overall win for Belgium.

- We knew Belgium would be a close tie, and we saw that in the two first matches where we lost, it was really close. In the women’s singles, I was unfortunately not able to bring my A-game today. We were of course hoping for something else, but that’s how it is.
