In this article, we get to know Jenny Moore, the English doubles player, a little better as she answers questions about her best badminton memory, her favourite player of all time and her biggest support through her career.

Why/how did you start playing badminton?

- My mum was a member of the local club, playing weekly at a club near our home. When I was around six or seven years old, she had a club night and took me with her (as nobody was at home to look after me). To keep me entertained she had little hits with me in between playing her matches - and from there it turned into a regular weekly thing!

- I enjoyed it so much that she then got me involved with the kids club playing badminton, and then got a coach when I was around nine years old.

What do you do in your spare time when you are not in the badminton hall or at the gym?

- Since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic, myself and Greg Mairs started a YouTube channel called Badminton Insight. This has filled all of our spare time over the last seven months, and we are absolutely loving it. Although it is time consuming, it is so rewarding when we receive messages from people thanking us for our latest video. Our aim for Badminton Insight is to help grow the sport of badminton around the world and to spread our passion of the game. We are only just getting started and we have definitely got a long way to go!

You can find their YouTube Channel here

What is your best badminton memory and why?

- My best badminton memory is definitely winning the Norway IS back in 2017 with Greg. After many bronze and silver medals on the international circuit, we had never managed to win one. This changed in Norway and it was an amazing feeling to finally achieve that goal. It was a funny feeling as we had tried for so long to win an international title, then we won the next two we played in!

If you could choose one player to play doubles with, who would it be and why?

- It would have to be Zhao Yunlei. She is a legend in the badminton world, for both her level doubles and mixed doubles achievements. It would be a lot of fun to play with her - and I had ask her a LOT of questions!

What was your big goal as a 15-year-old? Why?

- To represent England at a major event. This would have been something like the World Championships, Commonwealth Games or the Olympics.

Did you achieve that goal?

- I have not yet achieved the Commonwealth Games or Olympics, but I have played in a World Championships - in Glasgow.

What is your big goal now?

- To be honest, my main goal is still the same! I want to continue representing my country as much as possible, and to the best of my ability. Outside of the ‘on-court’ goals, I have a big goal of wanting to help grow the sport of badminton through our YouTube channel and website like I mentioned earlier. Badminton is such a huge sport in Asia, but much less so in Europe and USA/Canada. It is definitely something to work on!

When you are at tournaments, what do you like to do when you are not playing matches or warming up?

- Hmmm, well I have only played one tournament since February 2020 so it is hard to remember! At Denmark Open I spent the majority of my time in the hotel room (due to COVID) but usually I like to try and at least walk around the city we are in. It is really something to not take for granted, so I try and take the time to make sure I get to see all of these amazing places we get to visit!

Who is your favourite player of all time and why?

- Similar to my answer before, Zhao Yunlei. Her long list of achievements whilst playing two events are unbelievable.

If you were not playing badminton, what would you be doing then?

- I think something to do with business - at university I studied International Business and then a masters in Information Management and Business Technology. Now, I had like to say running our YouTube channel and website full-time!

Who has been your biggest support in your career?

- Aside from my parents and Greg, I would say Andy Wood. He was one of the coaches at Loughborough University and also played a huge role as a ‘mentor’ during our time there. Even though I have not directly been coached by Andy for a couple of years now, we still regularly keep in touch to chat all things life and badminton!
