French Christo Popov and Flavie Vallet beat third seeds Marcus Rindshøj and Mette Werge from Denmark in the third round of mixed doubles.

Rindshøj and Werge were on paper favorites as they had their seeding, but from looking at the team event, they knew Popov and Vallet could play at a high level. The French pair won the math 21-19 21-15.

- We are happy about our performance today. We played much better than the other matches, especially in the first three shots. I think we can get an even better level than this in the next rounds, and I hope we reach the gold, Popov said.

Ready for the quarterfinals

After the victory this morning, Popov and Vallet are ready for the quarterfinals, which will be played later this afternoon.

- We did not have that many matches together before the European Juniors because of the COVID-19, but I think since the first match we played at the team event, we have gotten better and better every match, Popov stated.

In the quarterfinal the French will face Egor Kholkin and Regina Galiakhmetova from Russia. The Russians beat Adam Ehm/Sona Horinkova from Czech Rep. in the third round.
