The quarterfinals are set!

Today was the final day of the group stages and after a rollercoaster of emotions, we now know who will be in the knockout round of the tournament. 

Group 1
Number one seeds Denmark managed to secure the top spot after a well-fought 3-2 victory against Germany, who finished second, but with the same matches won and lost as Denmark. 

Hosts Finland put on a strong showing that they can be proud of, with their highlight being when they pushed the 11-time champions Denmark all the way to a 3-2 result. The Faroe Islands had a great experience in their debut appearance. 

Group 2
Russia managed to win all of their matches to win the group, however, it was no plain sailing as twice they had to fight to a 3-2 win against Sweden and the Czech Republic. Sweden, with the same matches won and lost as Russia, settled for second. 

The Czech Republic take third with one win over fourth-placed Portugal. 

Group 3
Spain, 2015 champions, provided the big upset of the day when putting together a sensational 3-2 victory over third seeds Serbia, who took second. 

Both teams defeated Italy with a 4-1 scoreline placing them in third. Lithuania was withdrawn from the group prior to play. 

Group 4
In the largest group, reigning champions France were able to navigate their way to the top spot with losing just three matches. Second place was very open, with many candidates throwing their hats into the ring.

Estonia scored an early surprise win over the team seeded 5 to 8 in the group, Ukraine, and put themselves in pole position to advance. After losing 5-0 to France, they secured their second place with wins over Switzerland and Slovenia. 

Quarterfinal draw
The live draw was conducted by Badminton Europe’s Deputy General Secretary, Jimmy Andersen, and Events Manager, Tamara Geeraerts, from inside the Pajulahti Sports Institute, Lahti, Finland, after play was concluded. 

The quarterfinals are as follows:

Denmark vs Sweden
Spain vs Estonia
France vs Serbia
Germany vs Russia
