41 Member Associations joined the 2020 Annual Delegates’ Meeting (ADM), which was held on Saturday, 17 October 2020.

Badminton Europe’s Members were invited to attend the 2020 BEC Congress in Copenhagen from 16-17 October, but on 27 August the Badminton Europe Board of Directors decided that Badminton Europe would not able to conduct the Congress face-to-face this year. Because of the COVID-19 situation it was decided that the 2020 Annual Delegates’ Meeting was to be held virtually – a meeting that took place this Saturday 17 October 2020.

The meeting was chaired by the Badminton Europe President, Peter Tarcala, who for the first time as the BEC President took the Member Associations through the agenda.

- It was a different ADM, because it was not face-to-face. It was the first ever virtual ADM, so this was historical, Tarcala stated.

All virtual
Ahead of the ADM, all reports for the meeting were published as video presentations at the Badminton Europe streaming platform for the Members to watch.

Although it is not possible for the Members and the Badminton Europe Board of Directors to meet, Peter Tarcala is pleased with the meeting.

- We have all been sitting at home, and we have all started to work virtually. It is so different that you do not see the people and you cannot talk to them and see their reactions, but I am happy with the meeting under the circumstances, the president mentioned.

New Director elected
Serbian Radomir Jovovic is as of today new member of the Badminton Europe Board of Directors. Jovovic fills the vacant seat at the Board of Directors, which German Martin Kranitz left open. Jovovic was elected unopposed.

The Badminton Europe President is pleased to welcome Jovovic on board.

- Radomir is a newcomer to the Board, but he was part of our Commissions. He has been participating in our business at Badminton Europe, and I am happy that Radomir is joining the Board of Directors.

- He is involved with organising international tournaments, and I am sure he will bring good ideas and good opinions, Tarcala said.

Re-elections
2020 is also election year for the BEC Vice-President, João Matos, who will now be serving as Vice-President until 2024. The Portuguese was elected unopposed. The same was the case for Director and Chair of the Member Support Commission, Emma Mason, who has been re-elected for another four-year term at the Badminton Europe Board of Directors.

- I can only congratulate João. I think he is the person who has served Badminton Europe the longest. João has absolute knowledge and experience in badminton. With his knowledge we can only be happy that he is supporting us, Tarcala said.

- Also congratulations to Emma. She is a knowledgeable woman who supports us, and she brings a lot of good ideas to the Board of Directors, he added.

Getting business done
It was the first ever virtual ADM, and General Secretary at Badminton Europe, Brian Agerbak, is pleased that is was possible to organise the 2020 Annual Delegates’ Meeting despite of the COVID-19 situation.

- It was very different from normal, but I am happy that we could conduct the meeting this morning, so that we can follow our rules and get the business done as a confederation, Brian Agerbak stated.

- A lot of time has gone into preparing the virtual meeting. In some ways we spend much more time preparing this than we do for a physical meeting. A lot of things can go wrong, and we tried to prepare for every scenario. One of the takeaways is that there are digital possibilities to address different topics. We have tools here to do more things digitally, and we need to take these opportunities. We now know we can do it, he added.

The minutes of the 2020 Annual Delegates’ Meeting will be circulated to all Members in the near future.
