The 2018 European Junior gold and World Junior silver medalist, Line Christophersen had the opportunity to play Olympic Champion, Carolina Marin, who shared some words of advice for the young talent.

Denmark’s Line Christophersen scored a momentous win in the first round of the women’s singles against her compatriot, Line Kjaersfeldt, 18 places higher in the ranking. Not given much time to let that sink in, she was confronted by Carolina Marin in the next round. Commenting on the main difference in her opponent today, the 20-year-old said.

-Carolina has a lot more speed. She has a lot of different strokes, so it is hard for me to see what she will do.

Marin was ultimately pleased she was able to step her game after close opening few exchanges.

-I think she played quite good at the beginning. I also made some unforced errors which gave her confidence. After the interval, I just talked to my coach and he gave me some tips to keep following the game plan. I kept my focus on this and kept going until I finished the game.

Marin’s advice
Asked whether Marin remembers her first encounters against opponents at an elite level coming out of juniors.

-Yes, of course, I remember many games when I faced top players when I was Line’s age. She is a good player and improving a lot and she has so much time to keep improving.

Marin also added a nice word of advice for the young prospect.

-I can tell her to keep working hard every day and follow her goals!

Christopherson has had a terrific debut Denmark Open, defeated one of Denmark’s top players in straight games and also has had the opportunity to play one of the most decorated women’s singles players in history in her prime. With her characteristic calm and understated manner, Christopherson says.

-It was nice to feel that I can play the speed and also play some rallies where I win my own points. So that was nice.
