German favorites beat Danish debutants in the opening match on the second day of Denmark Open 2020.

Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel walked on court as favorites as they are sixth seeds in the men’s doubles. They were up against a new pair Mathias Christiansen/Niclas Nohr, who played their first international match together. The Danes quickly took the lead and kept it through the first game which they won 21-12.

- They played well in the first game, but we also did not play our best. We tried to find our rhythm, but we made some stupid mistakes, Seidel stated.

Focus was the key

Second game were closer with the two pairs switching to take the lead in the beginning of the game. The Danes worked hard from the back of the court and the Germans had picked up a good defence making it an interesting match with a very high level. But towards the end, the Germans showed some experience taking seven points in a row and could secure the second game 21-13. Commenting on what made the difference in the end of the game, Lamsfuss said.

- There was a really long rally, where we were all really tired, but we just kept our focus high and we knew that the next points were quite important. We managed to win these points and I think that was the key.

European matchup ahead

In the third game the Germans kept the lead and the Danes struggled to close the gap. Lamsfuss and Seidel could walk from court as winners as they won the decicer 21-14.

Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel will face either Eloi Adam/Julien Maio from France or Ben Lane/Sean Vendy from England in the second round.
