In total 33 nations entered the team event at the European Junior Championships which is destined to be a fascinating tournament. The open nature of the tournament means that it will be anyone’s to win.

The seeded teams are:

1. Denmark
2. Russia
3/4. Serbia
3/4. France
5/8. Germany
5/8. England
5/8. Czech Republic
5/8. Ukraine

The seeding was based on an overall assessment of results of the 2019 European U17 Team Championships, 2018 European Junior Team Championships and the BWF World Junior Ranking of 15 September 2020.

The seeded teams will be divided into eight groups, each containing a seeded team. The group stage will be played across three days (29 - 31 October).

Who will reach European team glory?
Judging by the previous European Junior Team Championships, many teams are capable of laying claim this crown. France is looking for a treble, after wins in 2018 and 2017. Much has been said about the promising young French generation, but can they match what only the likes of Denmark and Germany have done before and manage three in a row.

Also seeded 3/4 are Serbia, a country that readers may be surprised to see seeded so highly. The Serbian youth have impressed and performed strongly recently, and they have an all-round team. Despite not winning any individual medals at the 2019 European U17 Badminton Championships, Serbia won a silver medal in the team event.

Second seeds Russia on the other hand came away from the European U17 Badminton Championships with six medals, two of which were gold in the women’s singles and women’s doubles. Having settled for a team bronze there, and also at the 2018 European Junior Championships, they will be hoping for more in Finland.

The top seeds Denmark will be particularly keen to regain their crown after a seven-year gap. For a tournament they have won twelve times, Denmark look like they are in good shape to win that thirteenth championship. Many of the players winning the European U17 Badminton Championships team gold, as well as the three individual golds, will be stepping up to repeat the feat next month.

The draw will be done live on Tuesday 20 October and can be followed on all communications channels of Badminton Europe.
