European Games bronze medalist, Anne Tran, says that she has used this time to recover and find the motivation for new goals. But what are they?
Tran, 24, had a lot of uncertainty around her future even before the Olympic qualification was frozen by BWF. This uncertainty was due to a serious injury to her women’s doubles partner, Émilie Lefel. Tran explains how she sees the current developments.
-The Olympics was not a possibility after Emilie’s injury but now after the pandemic we do not know how the end of the qualification will look like. Even if I do not put too much hope in it, the door is less closed than before.
Tran has turned to mixed doubles in her partners absence. Playing with the experienced Ronan Labar, their partnership has a different feel to it.
-We had an original project with Ronan because we started only one month before the Olympic qualification. It has been not easy to have to fight for results, even if we believe that we could make it. When we knew the qualification was over for us, we had to bounce back to find new goals. Now we found them, and we will keep on moving forward together.
At the top of the world rankings
The Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021 is of course a big topic for all players. Commenting on her goals moving forward, in both categories, Tran says.
-My personal goal in women’s doubles is the same in mixed doubles, which would be to have a medal at the Olympics.
When asked where we will see you in three years from now, Tran, who reached five tournament finals last year, winning one at the Denmark International, confidently stated.
-At the top of the world rankings and a European champion.
All French players will naturally have one eye on the Paris Olympics in 2024, slowly making long-term plans towards this goal. Subsequently, there are many questions about this. When asked if she is tired of talking about it, instead of the upcoming milestones, Tran says.
-Of course not. I have to talk about it a lot, but it is something that motivates me and gives me energy so always good to think about it!
