This is definitely a good decision.

The day after the announcement of the postponement of the Olympic Games by the IOC and Prime Minister Abe, athletes around the world are still coming to terms with what this means for them moving forward.

European Games silver medallist, Kirsty Gilmour, expresses her feelings following the news.

- I think this is the right decision by the IOC and the one that I and the other members of the BWF Athletes Commission and the continental Athletes Commissions wanted to see.

- Of course, it is disappointing that we do not get to play in an Olympics Games this summer which everyone has been working so hard towards for the past year. But for the health of the athletes, the volunteers, support teams and the Japanese public this is definitely a good decision.

Still so much uncertainty

All badminton players, when thinking about how this will affect their future plans, are eagerly awaiting to see what will happen with their rankings and possibly a new qualification period.

Marvin Seidel, who was looking forward to representing Germany at his first Olympics has still many questions that need to be answered.

- It was the right decision overall, but there is still so much uncertainty for me personally. How will the qualification continue for example? Will the pandemic be any better then? For me right now it is tough because I feel like my motivation in self-quarantine has dropped.
