Germany’s Kai Schaefer has moved six spots up on the BWF world ranking list, published on Tuesday.
Last week, he beat Misha Zilberman (Israel) in the first round, then lost to Sameer Verma in the second round (India) in Spain Masters. Both of the matches ended in three sets.
-Two really good matches in Barcelona. Anyway, it’s still not good enough, Schaefer wrote on his Instagram.
According to this week’s men’s singles world ranking list, he is standing on position no. 71, which is his best result. Schaefer talked to Badminton Europe about it:
-I’m feeling positive. It’s a good sign to have your highest ranking during the Olympic qualification, when everybody is playing so many tournaments.
However, his goal is to reach higher ranking positions in the future. For now, he is aiming to get more ranking points by the end of the qualification period, to meet the national criteria for the Tokyo Olympics.
- It’s going to be tough due to the cancellation of German Open and Polish Open. But we’ll have to wait to see how it’s going to be with the Coronavirus, Schaefer explains.
Other changes
Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke has moved two spots up to occupy position no. 18 on the men’s singles world ranking list. Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus (DEN) has moved three spots up, standing on position no. 34. Brice Leverdez has moved up one spot, to occupy position no. 39.
In the women’s singles world ranking list Carolina Marin (ESP) has moved one spot up, currently occupying position no. 7. Turkey’s Neslihan Yigit is standing on position no. 34, three spots up compared to last week.
In the men’s doubles world ranking list Denmark’s Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen have climbed up with three spots to stand on position no. 11. In the women’s doubles world ranking list, Chloe Birch/Lauren Smith are standing on position no. 23 after moving three spots up.
Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue (FRA) have moved two spots up, reaching the top 15 in the mixed doubles world ranking list.
