In the finals of the Super 300 tournament, Spain Masters, there were European participants in all categories.

Denmark was represented in two of the categories, men’s singles by Viktor Axelsen and in men’s doubles by Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.

The first Dane to walk on court was last year’s winner, Viktor Axelsen, who was facing three-time World Junior Champion, Kunlavut Vitidsarn from Thailand. Axelsen showed why he was the first seeded in this tournament and won the match 21-16 21-13.

Astrup and Skaarup was up against a bigger challenge, the reigning champions, Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin from Chinese Taipei. The Danes had never won a match again Lee and Wang, but that was to be changed today. Astrup and Skaarup have had a good period where they won the National Championships and the European Men’s Team Championships, and they continued the streak with another win today claiming their first big title since China Open 2018. This was their third title in three weeks.

A bad pattern

In the mixed doubles sixth seeded Delphine Delrue and Thom Gicquel faced Kim Sa Rang and Kim Ha Na from Korea. The French pair won the first game 21-15, but in the next two games, the Koreans were too strong and Gicquel and Delrue lost hope in the end. Kim and Kim took the title after winning the last two games 21-11 21-10.

Stefani and Gabriela Stoeva followed the same pattern as the French when meeting Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu from Indonesia. The Stoeva sisters won the first game 21-18, but first seeded Polii and Rahayu came back and took the next two games 22-20 21-17. The women’s doubles played 96 minutes in total.

At last the homecourt favorite Carolina Marin walked on court. The Spanish star was playing Pornpawee Chochuwong from Thailand. Also this match followed the pattern as the two previous matches, where Marin won the first game 21-11, but then lost the next two 21-16 21-18.
