They did it back in 2018. On Saturday they did it again: The German women’s team is ready for the final.

Once again Germany is ready to fight for the gold medals at the European Women’s Team Championships. At the #EMWTC18 in Kazan the Germans were left with the silver medals – on Sunday they will try to take the final step.

Scotland won the first match of the tie, when Kirsty Gilmour beat Yvonne Li 19-21 21-19 21-15, but the Germans pushed back winning the second women’s singles. Fabienne Deprez beat Rachel Sugden in straight games 21-13 21-8.

Youngster makes it 2-1
Team event rookie Ann-Kathrin Spöri made the life tough for Julie Macpherson, who yesterday became the match winner for the Scottish team against the second seeds from Russia.

Spöri won 19-21 21-17 21-9 against Macpherson giving Germany a 2-1 lead heading into the doubles.

- The third game was good, and I could feel that my team was behind me. In the first game I was nervous, and I wanted a little too much. It is my first time playing a major tournament of this level, and you want to show the team that you can do it, and that you are in the right position. Right now, I am just happy that I could show it, Spöri said.

Strong doubles
Linda Efler and Isabel Herttrich is ranked eight in Europe, and on court against Eleanor O’Donnell and Ciara Torrance the Germans dominated. Efler and Herttrich won 21-19 21-14, and Germany is now ready for the European Women’s Team Championships final after beating Scotland 3-1. Denmark is waiting for the Germans in the final.

- It was solid but they came close in the first game, but we managed to win it quite good, Linda Efler said.

- I think we have a good team, and the Danish team seems to have some problems, so maybe there are chances tomorrow. Our team is healthy and fit, so we will throw in everything we have tomorrow, Isabel Herttrich added.
