The women take to the court in the afternoon session, which sees silver medallists in Kazan, Germany, take on Slovakia. The first women’s singles match was a tough one for Martina Repiska, who took on world number 42, Yvonne Li, losing 21-16, 21-6 in just 21 minutes. After the match, Repiska spoke honestly about the performance.
-It was really a tough one because I did not really find my game today. I tried to do everything I could, but it was one of these days that you feel so lost on the court. I hope it will be better later in the doubles and tomorrow.
Commenting on her opponent and the strong fourth-seeded German team, Repiska says.
-She was pushing me and controlling the speed. I was then running and hitting without any plan. She was technically good and was much faster than me today.
-Germany are strong and probably the ones who will go out of the group, but we also have Portugal and Latvia to play. Our goal is to be placed second, so we will fight for that spot, she adds.
