Ukraine locked horns with Slovenia this morning in the five-team group seven. Leading the way was Centre of Excellence (CoE) men’s singles player Artem Pochtarov. After his win against Andraz Krapez, he said.
-I think it was quite tricky because the first matches are always like that. Everything is new, so we need to adjust to the court, the lights and the shuttle. But I handled this quite well and won the match, which is very important for my team.
Ukraine will be the hosts for this year’s European Championships, taking place in Kyiv. So what are the ambitions for the Ukrainian team here in France?
-We really want to play in the quarterfinal and get out of the group. This time we have a group where each match will be tough, but we aim to progress further. Then we will see who we are drawn against.
