As we have now taken a full step into 2020, we are edging closer to the major events of the year which are key targets for Europe’s top players. This week at Badminton Europe’s Centre of Excellence (CoE), a women’s singles camp is taking place with some of Europe’s best.

The focus of the camp is to practice close to match level performance by giving them sparring opportunities and new training partners.

Head Coach, Jeroen van Dijk, shares his perspective on how the camp is going.

- I am very happy the way the camp is going, especially now that we have Judith Meulendijks as a CoE coach. She is playing a leading role in the camp and I feel that there is a good atmosphere between the players and Judith. She is able to share a lot of experience from her own singles career which is appreciated by the players.

A lot of individual attention
Judith Meulendijks is one of the most successful and decorated European players. She is now sharing her experience as a coach with the Centre of Excellence in Holbæk. Speaking about the training this week, she says.

- We have a group of nine to ten women’s singles players from different countries, where the main focus is to give them good sparring and game-like exercises. The advantage of this group size is that we can give a lot of individual attention. During training, we also discuss certain situations, so that the players are really involved. Besides that, they also get space to work on their own focus points. The girls are working hard, the levels fit very well together, so the quality of training is very good.

We want more!
The players have been very positive about their experience during the camp. So much so, Jeroen van Dijk has confirmed that.

- In the meeting, the girls informed us that they would like to do a camp again at the end of May and beginning of June.
