Tomorrow the Badminton Europe (BEC) board and commission meetings will commence in Copenhagen, Denmark.

BEC has nine commissions, which will hold meetings over the weekend. Commissions typically have six to seven members. These can be BEC Vice Presidents, Directors or external experts (from BEC Member Associations). The Commissions are foreseen to meet twice a year, in January and June.

Explaining the importance of such meetings to govern, promote and develop the game of badminton in Europe, Brian Agerbak, General Secretary of Badminton Europe says.

- It is the end of a year and the beginning of a new year. So, we need to look at all our accounts from the previous year, while planning for the coming year’s budget. We are also preparing for the annual meeting, which is coming up in April. Therefore, we are also sorting through all the different proposals that have come in that may lead to changes in activities and regulations. Alongside this, we are looking at the strategic plan towards 2024, which we would like to share with members at the member's forum, also in April.

Exciting new activities and ideas
The main aims for the meetings are to review and formulate exciting plans for the further growth of badminton, together with our member associations. Discussing some of these plans, Brian Agerbak adds.

- In this particular meeting, we are addressing several governance agenda points, especially on how we work together with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) in the future. Furthermore, we are in the process of refreshing our website with a new look and developing a data toolkit, a potential service for member associations which would target a segment of players who we would like to have registered.

BEC President, Peter Tarcala, shares his expectations for the important weekend, ahead of a significant year for badminton.

- I am expecting new activities and ideas for the upcoming Olympic year. The Board of Directors meeting will follow on Sunday with a focus on the different areas of our Confederation. Increasing the number of registered players and improving the performance of European players will be the critical priorities from my point of view. I am very much looking forward to meeting colleagues from all around Europe and make another contribution to the development of our sport in our continent.
