Mark Caljouw: I really have to fight for it

Mark Caljouw, 24, is a prominent player on the European circuit. Having made his mark early in his career when winning the silver medal at the 2013 European Junior Championships. He has since begun taking senior titles and improving year on year. In 2019 he won the Austrian Open and Kharkiv International and is now doing all he can to ensure a place at the Tokyo Olympics. 

When opening up about the pressures of Olympic qualification, Caljouw stated. 

-It is really hard in this sport, especially for a European guy from a small country, to have to qualify in the top 20 in the world. I really have to fight for it. 

Caljouw also discusses why he moved to Denmark, player funding, the Dutch road to Tokyo, consistency in performances, Olympic qualification tiredness, dealing with the tough loss at the European Games and much more.
