In the previous week, the South Africa International was held, and two players from the Centre of Excellence did well in this tournament.

Kate Foo Kune secured a bronze medal two weeks ago in Zambia and just yesterday the Mauritian women’s singles player added another medal to the collection.

The fourth-seeded Foo Kune won her first two matches in straight games, sending her through to the semifinal where she faced Egypt’s Doha Hany, who she lost the semifinal to in Zambia. This time it was a different outcome as Foo Kune won without problems, 21-13 21-6.

In the final Foo Kune faced unseeded Katharina Fink from Italy. Foo Kune also managed to win this match in straight games, 21-16 21-14, securing her first title and gold medal after being absent from international competitions.

On her Instagram, she wrote:

- Winner of South Africa Internationals 2019. So happy to be back! Thanks for all the support everyone.

Another medal for CoE

Milan Ludik, the Czech men’s singles player, also played the South Africa International. The first two matches in the tournaments were won in straight games, sending him through to the quarterfinal.

In the quarterfinal, Ludik needed three games to win the match, and it was the same in the semifinal where he beat Arya Bhivpathaki from India 19-21 21-12 21-12.

Unfortunately, Ludik could not play the final due to an injury he got in the semifinal. But Ludik could still bring home a silver medal.

This is what Ludik wrote on his Instagram:

- Second place in South Africa as I could not play the final today. Yesterday I injured my groin, and I had to retire from the final.

Both players will be playing the Italian International starting this Thursday.
