Double agony for Germany’s Isabel Herttrich
So far, Isabel Herttrich had had an amazing week in Lucknow by reaching two semifinals – but Saturday became the end of her journey. First, she lost her women’s doubles semifinal, together with her partner Linda Efler, in two straight games against the strong fourth seeded Koreans Chang Ye Na/Kim Hye Rin. 21/14 21/12 the match ended in favor of the Koreans.

In the last match of the semifinal day Isabel Herttrich was back on court, this time in mixed doubles, together with Mark Lamsfuss. The fifth seeded Germans pushed England’s Marcus Ellis/Lauren Smith all the way in the first game, but eventually losing it 23-21. In the second game the English pair was too strong, taking the place in the final with a convincing 21-13 win.

In the final Ellis/Smith will be up against fellow-Europeans Rodion Alimov/Alina Davletova from Russia who in their semifinal knocked out France’s Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue. After sharing the two opening games between them, the Russians showed no mercy in the third, taking a quick 21-9 win. The European final will be a first encounter between these two pairs, as they are yet to play against each other in an international competition.

India, the host nation, will be represented in just one of Sunday’s finals where Sourabh Verma will take on Chinese Taipei’s Wang Tzu Wei in the men’s singles final.
