The seedings are in for the European Men's & Women's Team Championships taking place in Liévin, France on 11-16 February 2020.

In total we have 34 men’s teams and 29 women’s teams. As a result, the men will have eight groups in total, six groups with four teams and two groups with five teams. The winner of each group will advance to the quarterfinals.

The women’s team event will have seven groups in total, six groups with four teams and one group with five teams. The winner of each group and the best overall runner up will advance to the quarterfinals.

The seeding is based on the world ranking as of 19 November 2019. For each team a sum of world ranking points was calculated, only considering players eligible for international representation of the country. The sum consists of the ranking of the three best singles players and the (notional) ranking of the four best doubles players.

Each group will have one seeded team. Here are the seeds:

Men
1 – Denmark
2 – England
3 – France
4 – Russia
5 – Germany
6 – Netherlands
7 – Finland
8 – Spain

Women
1 – Denmark
2 – Russia
3 – France
4 – Germany
5 – Bulgaria
6 – Turkey
7 – Spain

Denmark top both seeding lists with hosts France also finely balanced by claiming the third seed in both lists and look poised for a big result in front of their home crowd.

England, although number two seeds in the men’s event, just miss out on a seeded spot in the women’s event to a Spanish team featuring the second highest ranked women’s singles player, Carolina Marin. This means that one seeded women’s team will be drawn against England in the group stages.

Also making a seeded spot in the women’s event is Turkey, who boast a solid singles trio in Neslihan Yigit, Aliye Demirbag and Ozge Bayrak.

Germany, who picked up a bronze and silver medal in the men’s and women’s event respectively last time, are seeded fifth in the men’s and fourth in the women’s event. They will be hoping for similar successes in France.

The draw will be conducted on 3 December at 18:00 (CET).
