Playing in their home tournament, the Scottish men’s doubles pair of Adam Hall and Alexander Dunn managed to pull off a great result over former European Championship bronze medallists Mathias Christiansen and David Daugaard from Denmark.

The number three seeds were able to secure the win in two competitive games this time, 21-17, 21-19. When playing just last week in Dublin, it was a much tighter three game match going down to the wire. Speaking about this, Hall said.

-It’s always really nice to get a win over those two boys. We weren’t expecting the play them again this week, as the draw was made on Wednesday. It’s not an ideal first round, but we are happy to get through it.

Following up, we asked what made the difference today.

-Knowing that there is confidence from last week when we beat them in a close match. It was important to take that into this match. I feel that they were a bit scared as well, knowing that we can beat them. We did a bit of video analysis and stuck to our tactics quite well.

More belief
Looking back after the match, we asked what they did better than their opponents today.

-It was a very tight match, but I think we were more comfortable on the serves. We were 18-16 down, but we had a good run on my serve. They were not as comfortable on their serve and we were able to get a few cheap points on the return.

Lastly, we asked what they need to add to their game in order to go all the way in Glasgow.

-I think it comes down to a little bit more belief. We know what we are capable of when we train day in day out, but it’s putting it all together in a pressure situation.

Adam Hall also won his mixed doubles game earlier in the day. Hall and Dunn will now play England’s Callum Hemming and Tom Wolfenden this evening.
