Lee Cheuk Yiu secured a spot in the final in Hong Kong.

After beating Denmark’s Victor Axelsen in Friday’s quarterfinal, Hong Kong China’s home favourite Lee Cheuk Yiu continued his impressive results when beating India’s Srikanth Kidambi to reach Sunday’s men’s singles final of the YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open. Here he will be up against Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting who beat his compatriot Jonatan Christie in a 81-minute marathon in their semifinal.

Thailand’s star, Ratchanok Intanon also had to fight for more than one hour before she could book her place in Sunday’s final. After losing a close first game against Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi, she overcame her opponent and won the two final games 21-15 and 21-12. In the women’s singles final she will play against in-form Chinese Chen Yu Fei who beat Zhang Beiwen from USA in three games in her semifinal.

China represented in three finals
Chen Yu Fei will be one of the three Chinese in Sunday’s final. There will also be Chinese representation in women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan overcame Korean opposition in today’s semifinals, and tomorrow they will be playing against Korean opponents again – this time against Chang Ye Na/Kim Hye Rin who beat top seeded Japanese Matsumoto/Nagahara in their semifinal. In the mixed doubles final He Ji Ting/Du Yue will be up against Japan’s Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino.

Indonesia’s world champions Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan are ready for yet another final after beating Li/Liu from China in their match Saturday. On Sunday they will be up against a surprising finalist, Korea’s Choi Solgyu/Seo Seung Jae who beat Japan’s Endo/Watanabe on their way to the final.
