Marin surges up the rankings

The last three tournament results for Carolina Marin recorded as China Open champion, Denmark Open semifinal and French Open final are almost certainly exceeding expectations following her lengthy injury break.

This sees the Spaniard surge up the ranking from seventeenth to tenth. The current Olympic champion also rises up the ranking along with the young star from Korea, An Se Young, who moves up five places into eleventh.

Both players have played two incredible matches against each other in as many weeks, with the head to head standing at one each. The most recent being the final of the French Open last week, with the seventeen-year-old Korean simply outlasting Marin to take the title.

The Fischer effect
Former Danish mixed doubles star Joachim Fischer, who is two-time European champion and bronze medallist twice at the world championships and once at the 2012 Olympics, has entered into coaching.

Fischer will be collaborating with the England national team, particularly sharing his expertise with the two highly ranked mixed pairs of Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith (8), as well as Chris and Gabby Adcock (11).

Fischer’s first tournament at the back of the court saw Chris and Gabby Adcock reach the semifinal of the French Open last week and the pair looked re-energised. This result equalled a jump up two places into eleventh, just three places behind Ellis and Smith who remain in eighth and most importantly still holding onto that qualification spot.

The ideal scenario for England and Fischer is for the pairs to battle their way into the top eight, meaning both pairs would be on the plane to Tokyo, but there may only be room for one.
