Carolina Marin lost the French Open final to Korean An Se Young.

The firework was on and it was hard to hear what the person next to you said, when Carolina Marin and An Se Young entered the Stade Pierre de Coubertin in Paris to play the women’s singles final at French Open.

The atmosphere in the venue has all week been amazing, and there is of a reason why many of the European players compare the venue to the noisy Istora Senayan in Indonesia. On Sunday the sound was turned on again.

First game secured
Carolina Marin was first to get a point on the scoreboard, but it was the 17 year old Korean who took the lead at the interval; 11-10.

After the interval the three-times world champion and defending Olympic champion took control. A six points streak gave Marin a solid lead, 16-11, and Marin, who also won the title in 2015, won the first game 21-16.

- I was nervous from the beginning of the match, but I wanted to do what Fernando told me during the game, Marin said.

First Super 750 title for Young
An Se Young, who played her first ever final at the absolute top level, played well in the second game, which the Korean won 21-18 putting Carolina Marin under pressure going into the decider.

Last week Carolina Marin reached the semifinals at Denmark Open before losing to former world champion Nozomi Okuhara. Marin finishes the European part of the BWF World Tour as runner-up in French. An Se Young secured her biggest victory winning the third game 21-5.

- In the second game I made some mistakes and she played well from the second part of the second game. In the third game it was not me. I made all the mistakes I could do in a match, Marin stated.

- I would like to be happy for my week here. I beat three top players, she added.
