Gabby and Chris Adcock can return to England after losing their semifinal at French Open.

They are the back-to-back European champions. They are the runner-ups from the European Games. Saturday Gabby and Chris Adcock were fighting for a spot in the 2019 French Open final.

Looking at today’s matchup is was clear that it was no easy task for the English. The world number 13 faced the winners of Denmark Open, Indonesian Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti (world number five), who in the quarterfinals beat the World Championships silver medallists, Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai in straight games.

Close first game
In the first game the Indonesians were off to the best start, but the Adcocks got momentum building up a small lead. During the week in Paris the fans have been watching many close games, and today they did too:

Jordan and Oktavianti turned things around and won the first game 21-19.

- It was one of those games, where there was no rallies at all. We were competing very well and were with them. We got a small lead and there might be some small changes that we would like to have done looking at it now, Chris Adcock said.

No final this time
In the second game the Indonesians dominated. For the second constructive week Jordan and Oktavianti made it to the finals. The Adcocks lost the second game 21-12.

- The key for us was to take that first game but as soon as they came back after trailing you saw Jordan was growing more confident, Gabby Adcock mentioned.

- I am disappointed that we did not stick to the plan like we maybe should have done, and that is something we have to learn from.

A positive week
The last time the Adcocks made it to a big World Tour final was back in 2016, where they finished second at the World Super Series Finals. This week for sure has been a proof that the European champions are back on track.

- I am really proud how we have been dealing with some tough situations the last few months. We fought together and this week has been all positive, although we of course would have liked to be in the final, Chris Adcock stated.

Next up for Chris and Gabby Adcock are the Asian World Tour tournaments in November.
