Better than last week

After a not too good tournament in Denmark, Ben Lane and Jessica Pugh are ready for a better week in France.

After losing the first round last week at Denmark Open, Pugh went home while she was struggling with sickness. At the same time Lane stayed in Odense, where he was going to play men’s doubles. Unfortunately, the pair had to retire, because Sean Vendy became sick.

- It is coming to the end of my sickness, but I feel a lot better this week, Pugh said.

- We are happy to win this match, it is definitely a boost of confidence. Especially, in such a big tournament as well. We will just continue the preparations into the next match and take it how it comes, she added.

Already a better week
The English mixed double pair won against Nipitphon Phuangphuapet and Savitree Amitrapai from Thailand 21- 19 21-16.

- We played well out there. We had a plan before the match that we executed really well. The conditions are slow, so we knew it would be a long match and we maybe had to play 50 shots every rally before it is a win. We had a little more discipline in the longer rallies which is why we came out on top, Ben Lane said.

Thursday they will be facing the eight seeded Hafiz Faizal and Gloria Emanuelle Midjaja from Indonesia in the second round.
