Overall it has not been a good day for the Europeans. Only four Europeans from today are through for tomorrow. Two Danish men’s singles, a German men’s doubles and a Dutch women’s doubles.

The Danish men’s singles players are doing well. Rasmus Gemke, Viktor Axelsen and Anders Antonsen are ready for round of 16 tomorrow, Thursday. Number 4 and number 7 at the World Ranking, Antonsen and Axelsen, talked about their performances in their matches today.

- I think it was a good match. Srikanth is a tricky player, that I have never defeated before, so I was looking forward to this match and I am happy with the result, Anders Antonsen said.

- I, of course, feel happy about my performance because I won. It is pretty tough conditions to play in. The drift is tricky, but I managed to control it in big parts of the game, so I am pretty pleased with that. Now I am just happy and ready for another one tomorrow, Axelsen told Badminton Europe after his win against Japan’s Nishimoto.

Another day tomorrow
With a win today, the Danes are going to play again tomorrow, Thursday. Both expressed their joy about playing in front of their home crowd in a sold out Odense Stadium Hall, something very special for all badminton players.

- Hopefully I can get another win. I am taking Wangcharoen very seriously, because he is a good player. I am looking forward to that match, Antonsen mentioned.

- It is always great to have family and friends in the stands, so I am really happy about that, Axelsen said.

If both Antonsen and Axelsen will win Thursday, they will face each other in the quarterfinal on Friday.

Netherland’s Cheryl Seinen and Selena Piek was the only European women’s doubles pair surviving the first round as they overcame the challenge of their opponents from Chinese Taipei, while Germany’s Marvin Seidel and Mark Lamsfuss clinched a good first round win in men’s doubles when beating Inoue/Kaneko (JPN) in their opening match.
