It has been a rough tournament for Europe, as day four of Korea Open saw the final Europeans knocked out at the quarterfinal stage.

Success at the Super 500 event had a massive chance for certain European players to soar up the rankings but unfortunately that hope came to an end after Friday’s defeats.

Boe and Conrad-Petersen cannot upset the odds
In the men’s doubles it was Mathias Boe and Mads Conrad-Petersen who were the last European doubles pair to be eliminated from the competition.

The Danish pair came out into this one as massive underdog against the fourth seeds of the competition in Japan’s Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda.

Boe and Conrad-Petersen may have taken some confidence into the match however after winning the pairs only previous meeting together but that was soon gone as they lost the opener 21-13.

The world number 49 pair tried to fight back but the Japanese pair were just too strong and took the second game 21-17 to move into the next round.

Jorgensen loses unseeded affair
Another Dane who struggled in Korea was Jan O Jorgensen who lost his men’s singles quarterfinal to India’s Kashyap Parupalli.

Jorgensen was on top at the start of the match, leading the early stages of a back and forth opening game 10-6 but the Indian fought back, winning four points in a row before the two players traded blows until Parupalli edged the opener 24-22.

The second game did not get any better for Jorgensen as he began to chase the game as Parupalli led once again. The Indian did not look back this time however and stormed away to take a 21-8 second game to book his spot in the semifinals.
