The big tournaments keep on coming with the Korea Open taking place in Incheon from Tuesday the 24th of September all the way until finals day on Sunday the 29th of September.

Carolina Marin (ESP) was the only European winner in last week’s Super 1000 event at the China Open and some of Europe’s top talents will be looking to replicate her success amongst some stiff competition in Incheon this week.

Axelsen’s return continues
A big story from the China Open last week was the fact that Victor Axelsen’s return to action ended in the opening round after a defeat to Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyema.

The Dane did not have what it took to go the distance in the match against the Japanese player and Axelsen will be desperate to go much further in this one as he looks to rebuild his match fitness following his recent injury trouble.

Axelsen will begin the tournament with a match against a qualifier in the opening round on Wednesday.

Tough opening match for Ellis and Smith
The opening round of the mixed doubles has presented a difficult challenge for England’s Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith.

Despite being ranked eighth in the world, the English pair are unseeded for the tournament and have been given a difficult draw in the opening round as they will have to take on the Indonesian pair of Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti.

The Indonesians are seeded seventh for the tournament, the same position as their world ranking, and will be hoping to come out on top in this first time ever matchup.

Elsewhere in the mixed doubles draw, Chris and Gabrielle Adcock (ENG) will face the French pair of Delphine Delrue and Thom Gicquel in the opening round whilst the Dutch pair of Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek will face Japan’s Kohei Gondo and Ayane Kurihara.
