The former top player, and until recently coach of Swiss Badminton, Judith Meulendijks, joins Centre of Excellence.

She knows how it feels to win. She knows how to coach a winner. From the end of September the former Dutch top player and coach of the Swiss Elite Team, Judith Meulendijks, joins Badminton Europe’s Centre of Excellence in Holbaek, Denmark.

- It is a great opportunity to work with many players from different countries and with different backgrounds. I want to try and help to improve the European level in general, Meulendijks said.

- CoE has fantastic facilities which gives the players the best opportunities to optimize their training. Everything you need is there; plus now they also started working together with the university, which will give younger players a chance to start practicing more at a young age. Add an experienced and highly motivated coaching staff, whom I’m looking forward to working together with, and I think you have a great setup.

Knows how it is to be a player
For the past five years the former Uber Cup runner-up and European Team Champion has been coaching the Swiss players at the national training centre.

- After my own career as a player, I think I can show the players different ways to accomplice success - let them see things from a different perspective. It will take a lot of hard work, which I know they all are willing to put in, as they all are very motivated, the Dutch stated.

- I have had successes as a player, but I also know the downside of for example being injured for a long period of time, so it is easier for me to understand the players thoughts, on court, during training or a match. I know when to say something or not. That is the part that is very challenging but also really important; finding out what the player needs and how to make sure they get the most out of themselves.

Perfect match
The General Secretary of Badminton Europe, Brian Agerbak, is proud to welcome the former women’s singles profile, who was active on the absolute top level for more than 10 years, playing on the World Tour and in the best leagues in Europe.

- The numbers of players who have joined the centre has been increasing, and with Judith we now have the best possible coaching setup to work with the players, Agerbak said.

- I am happy that we now also have a female coach at CoE and it will for sure help our female players in reaching their potential. Judith is the perfect match for us, and with her experience as a top player and coach she will bring useful know-how to the training environment, he added.

Judith Meulendijks will have her first day at the Centre of Excellence on September 30th.
