Poland took the lead against the defending champion, but in the end the Danes were too strong.

Joanna Podedworny gave the 2019 European U17 Championships host a perfect start against Denmark winning the women’s singles match in straight games, 21-19 21-13, against Simona Pilgaard.

- I am very happy that I won my singles match, because this was a very hard match for me, the Polish women’s singles said.

Help from the stands
In the first game Podedworny was far behind, 15-8, but the right mindset and support from the crowd brought her back in the game.

- I was very motivated. All the people in the hall helped me on the court, she added.

Despite taking the lead against the favourites from Denmark, the Danes were too strong for the Polish team.

Denmark won the four remaining matches of the tie securing their second victory in the tournament. On day one of the team event Denmark beat Bulgaria.
