Selena Piek and Robin Tabeling are together one of the eight best mixed doubles in the world.

After an almost perfect performance Selena Piek and Robin Tabeling from the Netherlands secured at spot in the World Championships quarterfinals.

After missing a match point in the second game, the Dutch showed that they are amongst the best, beating the sixth seeds, Indonesian Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti, 21-13 21-23 21-8.

- I am incredibly happy that we are in the quarterfinals. Top eight of the world. Beating Jordan and Melati, who has recently been playing amazing, with this score and the way we played. I am so happy, Selena Piek said.

- We started out really aggressive and we showed that we wanted to go for it today with a convincing first game. The second game was a little nervous from both ends, and we got a little stuck in the service situation. To bring such a score in the final game and to show a brilliant class of badminton throughout the whole game that makes me happy, Robin Tabeling added.

Confidence despite missing a match point
The Dutch missed out on the match point in the second game, and it is not unusual that players are struggling to bounce back from such an experience. For the Dutch there was no doubt: They wanted to win.

- It was a whole new game, and we had everything to fight for. I think we had a good period at the end of the second game, so that gave us a lot of confidence. Of course, it is disappointing when you miss out on a match point, but we did not throw away a big lead, Selena Piek explained.

The Dutch will face Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing (Malaysia) or Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai (Thailand) in the quarterfinals on Friday.
