Bartlomiej Mroz continued his good form with a second win in the group stage

Poland’s Para Star, and Europe’s highest ranked SU5 men’s singles player, is living up to his 3/4 seeded position and his own high expectations this week in Basel at the Para-Badminton World Championships.

Yesterday saw him beat Thailand’s Watcharaphon Chokuthaikul, the world number 26 in straight games 21-11, 21-11, a repeat of the last time they played at the Japan International 2018. Today’s second group C matchup sees him face Malaysian Faris Ahmad Azri for the third time this year.

In Turkey, back in March earlier this year, and again in Ireland in June, Mroz came out on top after close energy-consuming three games matches. Today’s result was delightful for the world number four, 21-16, 21-14 who seems to have mastered his own combination of speed and power into an effective weapon on court.

It took a while, but we’ve found a balance

BWF caught up with Mroz in the mixed zone after his match.

- It was a good but intense match and I was very tired. I needed to catch my breath between points but I really feel at home here. And my friends cheering in the crowd just made me so happy, he said.

Mroz has a new coach and a new game plan:

- It took a while but we’ve found a balance and I feel healthy and confident coming to this tournament. I’ve been dropping by the main arena to get ideas from the able bodied world champion athletes, Mroz added.

He has one group game left, and if things go by the plan the Pole will finish top of the group which helps ensure a better draw going into the knockout stages that begin on Friday.
