After two days of waiting it was finally time for Anders Antonsen to go on court.

The European Games champion, Anders Antonsen, had a bye in the first round when Keven Cordon from Guatemala had to withdraw before the tournament began.

On Wednesday the Dane, who is seeded five, walked on court in Basel for the first time facing Daren Liew from Malaysia.

- It has been a few long days, so it feels good to finally get started. It has been a long build up, Anders Antonsen said.

Comfortable win
Antonsen won in straight games against Liew, 21-17 21-13, winning their first ever matchup and stopping the World Championships campaign for the 2018 World Championships bronze medallist.

- It is obviously a tough first round. I would rather have a match where I can start a bit easier to figure out the venue and everything, Antonsen stated.

- It was perfect to start like I did today.

Mexico or Japan
Multiple players compare the St. Jakobhalle in Basel with Arena Birmingham – the venue of All England. Anders Antonsen agrees, and he thinks that he can deliver good results in Switzerland.

- I have done better at venues in Indonesia and Denmark Open, where the halls are a little smaller, but I think it is okay for my game. I can handle the big arena as well.

Anders Antonsen will play either Lino Munoz (Mexico) or Kanta Tsuneyama (Japan) in the third round on Thursday.
