Amalie Magelund and Freja Ravn – remember those names.

Together they won the bronze medals at the 2017 European Junior Championships and the silver medals in 2018. On Tuesday in Basel Amalie Magelund and Freja Ravn entered the biggest stage for the first time with a win against the world number 44.

Magelund and Ravn, ranked 87 in the world, beat Tsz Yau Ng/Sin Ying Yuen from Hong Kong 13-21 21-15 21-18 in the first round of the World Championships.

- We hoped that we could win a match here. We did not expect it, but we trained for it, and now we are very glad that we did, Amalie Magelund said.

- It was close until the end, but in the second game it went very well for us, but in the third game it again was very close. We did not think about winning the match, before we had the 21st point, Freja Ravn added.

Want to be the best
The Danish tradition in women’s doubles has for the past decade been built by the former star players Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl. In the future the two young Danes hope that they will be the new women’s doubles “Two to watch”.

- We train to be the best in the world. If people think that we are going to be “The next ones”, it makes me glad, Amalie Magelund said.

- I think we are future super stars, Freja Ravn added and started to laugh.
