Germany’s women’s singles player Fabienne Deprez believes that she is at her best level since she reached the second round of the YONEX All England in 2017.

Back in 2017 the now 28-year-old beat Jordan Hart (WAL) and Sabrina Jaquet (SUI) in the qualifying rounds before beating Delphine Lansac from France. In the second round Deprez eventually  lost against Saina Nehwal, India.

- I think I am at the best level that I have been at for three or four years.

- When I was younger, people asked what job I wanted to have when I got older, and I said Olympic champion.

- I thought it was a job. Everyone else said they wanted to be like a doctor or something, but I wanted to be an Olympic champion, Deprez said.

Planning is important

Deprez has moved up 23 places in the World Ranking since June, with some impressive performances at the BWF Super 100 tournament, YONEX Canada Open, reaching a semifinal.

It used to be a problem for Deprez entering the higher ranked tournaments, but with her improved ranking, this is now possible.

- The problem for me was that my ranking was so bad, that I was not able to enter the bigger tournaments, Deprez said.

- Yvonne’s (Li) ranking is very good and even she has some problems entering the bigger tournaments, so planning will be important.

In August, Fabienne Deprez will participate in the World Championships in Basel.
