Vladimir Malkov is an optimistic man, speaking about his year ambitions after the European Club Championships.

The 33-year old who is hoping to go to the Tokyo Olympic Games laid out his prospects for the year after being part of the winning team in Luxembourg.

Points are going to be important for Malkov

The Russian is aiming to compete at the higher-ranked BWF tournaments in the near future but to do that, he needs points.

- It is very important for me to get more points and to achieve at least a place in the top 40. I want to go to the higher ranked tournaments, to increase my level, and my quality, by trying my best, Malkov said to Badminton Europe on a Live Facebook Interview.

- I was very disappointed with my European Games; it was a bit upsetting. So, the European Club Championships gave me the platform to build and practice on for a tough year ahead, he added.

All about enjoyment

Malkov is a big believer of not just playing to win but to play and enjoy the sport.

The Russian definitely had some enjoyment from the European Club Championships and is hoping to enjoy the sport more in the future after a slightly disappointing European Games, in Minsk.

- I think one of the most important things about badminton is to try and have fun. To enjoy on the court and try your best, he commented.

- Off the court it is about working hard to prepare for your matches but to still enjoy it, Malkov continued.
