Luisa Pagliara, 16, is one of the players at the RSL BEC Summer School in Podcetrtek, Slovenia.

The week has been busy and tough according to the Belgian.

A tough week but lots of development

The young Belgian believes it has improved her knowhow and skillset, and the experienced player and now coach, Nicola Cerfontyne is on hand to help.

- This week has been very challenging with a tough camp. In the beginning, we looked at some single strategies which a great opportunity for me was definitely to improve my game as I am aiming more towards Ladies Singles and I can easily say that I can see an improvement every day, Pagliara said.

- We have had a Ladies Singles analysis with our coach Nicola which was a really great experience for all the players as we did not focus on our physical and technical abilities on the court, but our mental abilities instead which is a very important part in badminton, she added.

The Summer School has a fine balance, the work and the training are first but there is also some downtime.

- Wednesday afternoon was a very special day, as we spent a few hours at Aqua Luna to let our minds rest a bit from the demanding sessions we had previously, she continued.

Full of ambition

With the U17 European Championships coming up at the end of August, Pagliara’s aim is not only to succeed in Poland but in the big challenges coming up for the youngster.

- In August the European U17 Championships will be played, and my aim is to secure a medal.

- My future aims would be to fight for a place in the Olympics which will be held in Paris in 2024 as well as the Junior Olympics.

- I’m also aiming at participating at the World Junior Championships where I would, of course, love to secure myself a medal.

100% commitment

Pagliara has revealed that she came into badminton with no background of the sport in any way and it started years ago when she played for enjoyment.

- I have fully committed myself to badminton for the past 8 years and will continue to do so.

- None of my family members had played badminton before and it all started as a fun school activity.

- My coaches could see potential in me, so I joined the national team and started having private lessons with my polish coach in my country, Belgium.

The Belgian truly believes that badminton has helped her with a lot of things and not just something to do.

- The sport hasn’t only enabled me to stay healthy and fit, but it has helped me with everyday life as it has helped me to become a hard worker in whatever I do, Pagliara continued.
