Midway through the Summer School camp in Podcetrtek, Slovenia; one of the coaches at the event, Eric Pang believes that it has been a good start.
The Dutchman is at his first ever BEC Summer School and is hoping to be able to share is knowledge of the game to the children, participating in the event.
A good start
Pang believes that there has been a good start to the camp in Slovenia and spoke about his own experience, being able to meet other people.
- I think it is a very nice event so far, it is the first time for me to be at the Summer School, Pang said.
- The players get along well with each other despite being of different countries and sometimes different levels too. But they are all training well, so it is positive.
- On a personal note, I have been able to meet up with Luca Crippa who I know well from my time in the sport, as well as Martjin van Dooremalen who used to be my coach. In addition to that, I have been able to meet some other coaches here and some new players that I didn’t know before.
- I am actually working as a coach in Hamburg where I am teaching players of the same level as the children who are at the camp in Slovenia, he added.
Improvement could be made
The former player was not afraid to say that there was a lot of improvement needed from the children in terms of discipline.
Pang hopes that the coaches are able to resolve this in the coming days, to make sure that they have the full undivided attention so that they can learn on court.
- The discipline needs to improve, it has not been the best. Some of the players have been a little bit late and late to sleep as well, we hope to improve that, the coach revealed.
- It is not a fun camp and they need to know that, it is there for them to learn some things. We hope they will learn more again from each other and not just the coaches, he stated.
