Denmark’s Matthias Boe and Mads Conrad-Petersen won the Men’s Doubles title at the Canada Open last night.

The Danish pair managed to overcome the unseeded pair of Japan’s Hiroki Okamura and Masayuki Onodera in straight games, 21-12, 21-18.

Boe and Conrad-Petersen romped out into a 5-1 lead at the beginning of the first game and never looked back, completely dominating their unseeded opponents to take the opener 21-12.

The second game was much tighter with multiple lead changes but it was the Danes who held their nerve when leading 19-18 to close the game out 21-18.

Who did they beat on their way to the final?

The tournaments 8
th seeds had a scare in their opening game against the Chinese pair of Liang Weikeng and Shang Yi Chen. Boe and Conrad-Petersen were taken to three games by the World number 144 pair after losing the opener 19-21. They squeezed through the second game with 21-19 win of their own before closing the game out with a comfortable 21-13 win in the decider.

The Danes then cruised past the Thai pair of Supak Jomkoh and Wachirawit Sothon 21-13, 21-19 and then even more impressively beat the 2
nd seeds Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin (Chinese Tapei) 21-15, 21-19 in the Quarter-Finals.

The Semi-Finals saw them dispatch another Chinese Tapei pair of Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han 21-14, 21-16, before taking home the Super 100 title with their victory over the young Japanese pair in the final.

What’s next?

Boe, who will turn 39 on Friday and Conrad-Petersen, 31, have won their second successive title since coming together in April after winning the Spanish International in June.

They are both expected to continue this partnership into both the US and the Russian Open in the next few weeks as they look to hold on to that winning touch on the hunt for a place at next Summer’s Olympics.
