Advantage Tapion Sulka

The Mixed Doubles contest at the start of the tie this evening gave the Finnish team all the hope that they need to reach the quarter-finals draw this evening.

Tony Lindelöf and Sonja Pekkola managed the first match and had full control, to win the contest and as a result, put their team into a good position. (24-22, 17-21, 21-11 )

The pair speaking after the match admitted there were nerves but also believe that their team can continue into the next stages.

- You could feel the tension, we needed the win to get the team going in the tie, we got a little nervous in the end but we handled it very well, Lindelöf said.

- We want to go further and want to show everyone what we can do, that was in our minds, he continued.

- Our team are fighters, so we can believe that we can go through to the knockout stages, Pekkola added.

Level terms

The second match of the tie was down to the Men’s Singles to either double Tapion Sulka’s lead or if Frogner II were going to level up. This was decided by Vegard Rikheim’s win for Frogner. (18-21, 17-21)

- I knew that I wanted to get one back for the team to give us a chance of making the knockouts, this was an important match for the team, Rikheim said.

- I started well, I had control of the match but in the second game I think both players were tired and I am glad to bring this one home for the team, he added.
