Helina Ruutel and Kati-Kreet Marran are through to the last eight at the European Games after coming second in Group C.

The Estonian pair have proven a lot of people wrong, with their performances so far this week, in Minsk.

A comfortable win

The pair have come out of their group after winning in straight games against Lise Jaques and Flore Vandenhoucke from Belgium

The first game was as strong as the Estonians have been all tournament, winning it 21-13 to give their opponents work to do.

The second game was about seeing the match out and they did that with a 21-14 win to go through to the next stage.

We want more

The Women’s Doubles pair have done what they came to Belarus to do at the European games but are adamant that they won’t stop there.

- I am really happy I think we are very satisfied with how we played today, Helina Ruutel said.

- We tried not to think about winning and losing, we just wanted to play a good game and we did that, Kati-Kreet Marran said.

- The net play, we had to be really high and get into our attacking game, she added.

- It is really nice to see so many Estonians watching us in badminton, so it is very good.

The pair have already exceeded expectations and the goal now is to go as far as possible at the multi-sport event.

- Our hope was to get into the top eight and now we have done that, we will try to get the medal for Estonia, Ruutel said.

- We will review after the European Games and we will see what our next goal is going to be, she added.
