Following the first day of the Para-Badminton High-Performance Training Camp in Dublin on Monday, today, the participants have continued to learn and advance skills both on and off court.

The camp is designed to help players prepare for what will be the first time Para-Badminton will be an event at the Paralympic Games.

Back to school

After the first day when the participants were practicing their on court techniques and learning different skills to put into their game, the second day began in the classroom.

The morning session for the players consisted of learning about Sport Nutrition with David Tobin and Kevin McManamon, professionals in the industry of Nutrition and Psychology for sport.

The session was an interactive one for the participants to involve themselves in by using their smart phone devices.

In the afternoon, it was back to on court action, with the players putting what they have learnt over the two day camp into their performances on court.

Something new to experience

Oleksandr Chyrkov (Ukraine), speaking about how the camp has gone over the course of the two days, believes that he has learnt new things to what he has practiced before.

The Ukrainian player also took a like to the session when the players learnt about Sport Nutrition and believes that he will benefit from it.

- I think that the training has been very interesting, because we have done things that we have not tried out in Ukraine, Chyrkov said.

- I also really like the Sport Nutrition sessions because I wanted to learn more about that part of the sport, and now I know where to start, he continued.

Good effort from all involved

Ilse van de Burgwal, one of the coaches at the training camp, has spoken about the attitude and effort of the players involved, and the will to learn.

The former World Champion also spoke about how it will benefit the players and the coaches in the future, after a learning experience.

- It is really great to be here as a coach. I like the effort of the players, they are always open for advice and to discuss with each other, about their vision.

- Together, we can grow, both as a coach and players going into the future, the Dutchwoman said,

- It is great for the European feeling to have a High-Performance training camp prior to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. The players have more people to practice with than when they are home, she added.
